Decided to pull out all my cheesy atari and dark wave synths for this song, even a cheap keyboard from a toy shop made it on. The choruses became an experiment on how much drive and distortion I could add to my electric guitar. I really got into the contrast of merging plucky, thin video game synths with enormous distorted pads.
The first interstate in America is called the Lincoln Memorial Highway. It was the first road that connected east to west. I used to drive it a lot on tour. Almost got into an accident twice driving through snow storms in the area. The monument just outside of Laramie, Wyoming was one of my favorite places to stop by and rest from the long drives. They had a little observation deck/museum in there that's worth checking out if you are into random historical factoids.
lyrics
On the interstate
There were bills to pay
I had nothing saved
For a rainy day
I was sincere
I wasn't sure
I had to steer
I lost control
But my lips were stained
By the light of day
Talking up some game
That's too hard to play
I wasn't clear
I wasn't sure
I wasn't real
I had to cure
'Cause the signs in the way
Can't make you turn away
When your stuck to the lane
And your eye's on the brakes
When you make a mistake
So you don't see the way
Call me honest Abe
With a war to stage
Call me head of state
Of some rogue brigade
I had the wheel
I was insured
I didn't steal
I wanted more
'Cause the signs in the way
Can't make you turn away
When your stuck to the lane
And your eye's on the brakes
When you made a mistake
So you don't see the way
